What's so great about July 4th?

It's the day before the 4th of July.  And I can tell.  Even though we haven't heard any of those nasty noises, I know.  I can smell it in the air.

Even yesterday, I could tell.  Mom tried to take me out after dinner, but I wouldn't let her go far.  I kept pulling her back towards home.  I didn't want anything bad to happen to her.  So I did my business across the street.  The park can wait until the danger is over!

Today, they went to play golf.  Mom was a little nervous about leaving me in case someone set off some fireworks during the day.  She turned up the radio and that was fine.  But then she tried to put these things on my ears.

Well I didn't much appreciate that.  What are those things anyway?  If they're supposed to scare away the noise in the night, maybe they might work.  But I don't like 'em.

What were you thinking, Mom.  I might rather be scared of the noises then have to wear that thing.

Well maybe they're not that bad.  But I think I'll take my chances.  Turn up the radio REAL LOUD.  Fourth of July, I'm ready!

Happy Fourth to All of You.  And remember the people who have fought for our freedom.

Love, G
